This workshop will explore dialogical strategies for responding to challenging moments in the classroom. Often referred to as H-O-T moments (heated, offensive or tense), these can range from controversial topics to disruptive behaviours. This session is designed to help instructors feel more prepared when these arise in classroom, and will cover:
Noticing tension, conflict, and charged discussions
Examples of common H-O-T moments
Strategies to address these moments
Practicing skills for classroom interventions
The workshop will include a 40-minute presentation, followed by 50 minutes of practice and participant questions.
