In 2015, the 193 members states of the United Nations (UN) adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing a vision of a brighter future for people and the planet. They explicitly recognized the links between social, economic, and environmental sustainability, stressing the crucial need to address issues of poverty, inequality, health, education, and economic growth, while tackling the challenges of climate change and biodiversity conservation.

This speaker series will introduce all 17 SDGs from an interdisciplinary perspective and will examine progress towards these goals in Canada and across the globe.

This first iteration features Peter Graham and Katja Neves who will discuss that achieving SDGs 1 & 2, (to eradicate poverty and hunger), will depend in large measure on the commonly shared ideas a society uses to address these two important global challenges.

This series was developed in collaboration with Peter Graham, currently teaching LOYC 398-03 Perspectives on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
