Join us for a panel discussion that seeks to answer: How are experiential learning opportunities critical in preparing students to enter the workforce and contribute effectively to the economy?
Economies everywhere are struggling with inflation, labour shortages and supply-chain disruptions. New technologies are proliferating at breakneck speed. The organization of work is undergoing a decisive transformation. More than ever, we need an adaptable, engaged workforce and citizenry to help us through these transitions and beyond.
Experiential learning opportunities enhance students’ formation by providing curated access to people, knowledge and networks that complement but go beyond the boundaries of standard degree learning. Through exposure to different cultures, workplaces and performance expectations, students perform better academically and can make a faster, smoother transition to life after a bachelor’s degree. With hands-on experience and a foot in the door, they’re also more likely to be recruited by organizations and employers.

Speakers
Karna Gupta
Member of the Board of Directors at Export Development Canada
Gupta was appointed to EDC’s Board of Directors in June 2018. He has more than 35 years of industry experience in the technology sector, and his expertise and accomplishments span across North American and international business domains. Most recently, Mr. Gupta served as President and CEO of ITAC. His previous roles included CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Certicom Corp, President of Billing at Comverse Technologies, Chief Marketing Officer for Comverse Americas, President of Sitraka Mobility, and several executive positions with Bell Canada.
Mr. Gupta holds a MBA in Marketing and Finance from Concordia University, and is a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Charles Milliard
MBA, President and CEO, Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ)
Milliard has been the President and CEO of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec since January 2020, leading this network of more than 130 Chambers of Commerce and 1,100 corporate members. The FCCQ represents over 50,000 businesses involved in all sectors of the economy throughout Québec. Before joining the FCCQ, he held executive positions at NATIONAL public relations and at the Uniprix Group. He is a frequent contributor as a health columnist on Radio-Canada, TVA and V.
Holder of a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a certificate in Economics from Laval University, as well as an MBA from HEC Montreal, Charles Milliard is a member of the Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec. Charles is also involved in several cultural organisations, as chairman of the board of directors of the Festival TransAmériques and administrator of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (OSM), the Conseil des Arts de Montréal and the Armand-Frappier Foundation.
Angela Mondou
President and CEO of TECHNATION
Mondou joined TECHNATION in 2019 with over 25 years of exceptional global and Canadian experience in the technology sector, driving transformational programs in global supply chain, technology product introduction and technology business integration.
Angela’s career path includes 10 years as a military officer specializing in global supply chain and logistics followed by 18 years in senior-level leadership roles in the technology and defence sectors including at BlackBerry and Nortel Networks. As well as being an author and keynote speaker on business leadership, he has held positions as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Ivey School of Business, as EVP of Leadership with the International Women’s Forum, as an Honorary Colonel of the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace, Technology and Engineering and holds a Professional Logistics designation.
Val Walker
Chief Executive Officer, Business + Higher Education Roundtable
Walker leads the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER), a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization that brings together some of Canada’s largest companies and leading post-secondary institutions. As CEO, Val drives BHER’s strategic direction, member and stakeholder relations, and a high-performing team committed to creating opportunity through collaboration in Canada’s skills, talent, and innovation ecosystems.
Prior to leading BHER, Val was Vice President, Innovation and Skills, at the Business Council of Canada where BHER was founded and Director of Policy at Mitacs. She holds a PhD from McGill University and is an alumna of the Government of Canada’s Recruitment of Policy Leaders Program.
