Inspired by Better Images of AI, this workshop will consider how stereotypical images like robots and disembodied brains influence public understanding and reception of AI technologies. We will present initiatives that have challenged these representations by emphasizing less visually present elements of AI, including labour, people, climate, and infrastructure. Following this, we invite participants to craft their own representations of AI, through material or digital collaging.

If there are barriers that would prevent you from attending, like child-care or accessibility, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate you. You are welcome to join and craft as you please, with low expectations for interaction.

On-site participation invites participants to craft paper-based collages. If you have extra magazines, glue, or scissors, please bring them, though this is not required to participate—we’ll have materials for you to use.

Virtual participation will be a collaborative experience in which participants will create digital “collages” with the img-2-img function in Stable Diffusion. No prior knowledge of this tool is required, and all materials will be provided.

How can you participate? Join us in person or online by registering for the Zoom Meeting or watching live on YouTube.
