Weight bias is a social justice issue that negatively affects the lives of many individuals worldwide. Individuals who live in larger bodies are often the subject of discrimination due to the negative weight-related attitudes that are widely accepted in society. Researchers at Concordia University in partnership with the School of Health will host the 2024 International Weight Bias Summit, a SSHRC and Concordia funded event dedicated to fostering meaningful collaborations among weight bias researchers, enhancing research output and outreach efforts to address weight bias on a global scale.
This Summit will bring together experts in weight bias to disseminate the research and advocacy initiatives in this field of research, and to prioritize future research directions that will allow for the advocacy of individuals with lived experiences of weight bias, stigma, and discrimination. Weight bias researchers and experts, clinicians, international representatives from NGO groups, and individuals with lived experiences will gather for this event to discuss how to advance the future of weight bias research and implement research strategies that will make meaningful impacts in clinical practice, policy changes, and advocacy initiatives.
