This workshop explores various power dynamics and cultural elements that impact a survivor’s experience of sexual violence. Participants will discuss the difference between a disclosure and the formal reporting process at Concordia. The aim is to provide community members with more information about what a reporting process could look like, understanding that each case is unique and dependant on the needs of the survivor. Participants will also learn about supporting survivors whether during a disclosure or throughout a reporting process.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the factors that influence the survivor experience of sexual violence and why they may/may not seek support.
  • Understand the difference between a disclosure and a reporting process.
  • Understand how a reporting process may unfold with attention to services provided by SARC and the ORR.
  • Gain strategies for supporting a survivor throughout a disclosure and/or reporting process.
