This therapeutic creative arts workshop is designed for queer and black trans people who have experienced anti-black racism at work.
Together we will attempt to create a safer, more sacred space to explore feelings related to this shared experience by using authentic dance, theatrical expression, storytelling and poetry as creative tools to guide us through this theme.
This therapeutic workshop is not intended to replace a course of psychotherapy. Instead, the workshop aims to create a fertile ground for connection with other members of the same community, and to nurture each participant's own process of healing and fulfillment.
About the facilitator
Kat Charles (she/they) is a youth counsellor, community organizer, and artist based in Tio'tia:ke (Montreal).
Kat holds a Master’s in creative arts therapy and has experience facilitating safer space for QTBIPOC youth as a counsellor and community worker. Their growing ideology as a therapist is heavily influenced by anti-oppressive practices and an acknowledgement of the systems that support or fail to support an individual. In their practice Kat enjoys emphasizing imaginative playfulness as a form of embodied emancipation and resistance, using techniques such as role play, storytelling, improvisation, paintng, drawing, music and dance. Kat believes that imaginative playfulness and involving the body in therapy can facilitate the experience of joy, embodied freedom and emotional release.
