The Black Healing Centre, in collaboration with the SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation, welcomes Yolo Akili Robinson for "Black Visionary Futures: Weaving Systems of Care and Solidarity".

This 2-day event series aims to inspire participants to lead with intention, build sustainable movements, and create systems that truly support the well-being and empowerment of Black individuals. At both days, we welcome the community to gather and explore innovative approaches to building supportive networks for Black students, wellness practitioners, change-makers, and those who care about Black communal futures.

On Thursday, December 5th, join us at the SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation to hear a conversation between Yolo Akili Robinson (Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective) and Samanta Nyinawumuntu (Black Healing Centre), as part of SHIFT's "Kinship and Council" event series. This event is open to the public and has free registration.

Then, on Friday December 6th, Black Healing Centre will be hosting a second event exclusively for Black change-makers at Never Was Average.

Meet the speakers

Yolo Akili Robinson is a non-binary, award-winning writer, healing justice worker, yogi, and the founder and Executive Director of BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective), a national organization in the United States that works to build care systems for Black communities to heal through education, training, and advocacy. With other 20 years of experience in community mental health, Yolo has led numerous workshops, support groups, and training sessions centered on healing justice, mental health literacy, and anti-patriarchal mental health for Black communities. His work is rooted in creating emotionally intelligent leadership and building spaces that support holistic healing and community care.

Samanta Nyinawumuntu is the founder and Executive Director of Black Healing Centre. They describe themselves as a Black queer being who hails from the mountains of Rwanda. They are an artist and community organizer whose mission is to facilitate and co-create intentional spaces that center a healing justice framework for people who are, and have been historically marginalized.
