Join us for our upcoming SHIFT Lunch & Learn! These are opportunities to learn more about social transformation and all of the amazing work connected through the SHIFT community. Bring your own lunch or come and snack on what we have here.
SHIFT's February Learning Community Showcase will highlight the work of two SHIFT-supported initiatives that create opportunities for their community members to come together to make art. They will discuss the power of art-making to break isolation, forge connection, and open possibilities for challenging the systemic barriers to their communities' well-being.
Ka Collective, an initiative of Kapwa Centre, is a group of Filipino/a/x artists living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. They find support and solidarity through the Filipino value of Kapwa, honoring each person’s artistic practice while harmonizing with each other through shared processes and principles. Through monthly artist gatherings and community art-making workshops, they open spaces of connection to self, community and culture.
Comm-Un combats the profound injustices facing Indigenous, Inuit, and other unhoused communities in Montreal’s Milton Park neighbourhood with the purpose of guiding individuals from survival to leadership. Lifting up the creativity and skill of community members, they organise access to materials and conditions for members to practice their crafts, learn from one another and express themselves through art.
Please note - this event is held in person, at the SHIFT space. If, for accessibility reasons, you are not able to join in person but would like to attend the event, please contact shift@concordia.ca and we can work together to see if an alternative solution is possible. A week’s notice will give us the best chance of making something work.
Learning Community Showcase On the first Tuesday of the month, come meet members of SHIFT’s Learning Community and learn more about the socially transformative initiatives they are leading.
