This training is offered by GradProSkills. It is only open to current graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

Advance registration is required.

Talk the Walk is an interactive workshop that combines theatre techniques with real-world communication skills to help you communicate with confidence and impact. Through hands-on exercises developed from our theatre training, you'll explore key behavioural pillars that shape effective communication. These activities will increase your self-awareness and allow you to engage more authentically with others, whether you’re giving a presentation or having a casual conversation.

The beauty of Talk the Walk is its practical approach—you’ll actively participate in exercises designed to challenge your communication habits and encourage creative thinking. Best of all, the techniques you learn in this workshop aren’t just for the moment—they’re tools you can continue to practice and refine long after the session ends, helping you become a more confident and effective communicator every day.

A quick reminder to wear comfortable clothing, and that outdoor shoes are not permitted in the studio (i.e. bring indoor shoes if socks are a problem.)

Spots are limited. Register by Wednesday, March 5.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze communication patterns to identify strengths and areas for growth.

  • Apply communication techniques in a supportive environment to build confidence and practice different communication styles.

  • Develop listening skills and apply tools to enhance active listening and empathetic responses.
