Food Systems & Climate Change: Film screening and discussion

In this two-part event, we explore the impacts of soy and monocrops for our global food systems.

Join us for a screening of "Soyalism," a documentary on the concentration of corporate power in global industrial pork production. Interviews and animations reveal the disastrous consequences of the ever-increasing industrialization of the food industry for both humans and the environment.

Afterward, take part in a discussion with Dr. Kregg Hetherington, associate professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology and author of The Government of Beans: Regulating Life in the Age of Monocrops. Hetherington will be sharing his expertise in Latin American food politics and government regulation, where well-meaning attempts by bureaucrats and activists to regulate the destructive force of monocrops are at best inadequate to deal with the complex harms of modern agriculture and at worst exacerbate them.

Note that strict COVID-19 measures will be in place, including limited registration to ensure adequate social distancing in the theatre, mandatory procedural masks (which will be available at the doors), and a valid COVID-19 passport or proof of vaccination.
