Many people are looking at the climate crisis with distress and grappling with the question “what can I do?”

Climate Wayfinding is a deep learning program for Concordia students seeking clarity, courage, and community on their climate journeys. Provided in the winter semester, this 6-week program will use individual and group exploration to help participants identify their unique contributions and develop key capacities for climate engagement.

From January 15th – February 19th, we will meet every Wednesday from 4:15pm-6:30pm at CUSP, 1175 Saint Matthieu Street, GN LR 03. We will be happy to provide childcare to those who need it, with advance notice.

To achieve this, participants will:

  • look inward — exploring our climate emotions, core motivations, guiding values, and skills and “superpowers.”

  • look outward — exploring climate solutions, accelerators for change, and our unique contexts and communities.

  • look forward — exploring our visions of the future and creating a personalized “climate compass” and plan.

What does the experience involve?

Climate Wayfinding weaves together curated, short reading / watching / and listening materials to complete before attending each session. These will prepare you for in-person discussion, prompts for reflection and free-writing, facilitated large-group discussion, independent small-group discussion, and resources and activities to go deeper in climate engagement.

By the end of the program, you will have each created your own Climate Compass—a living navigational tool for your climate journey; and a plan for your next steps to deepen or enliven our climate engagement, taking action in our personal, educational, and public lives.

Schedule

To participate, students must be able to commit to the following:

  • 1-2 hours of required reading/watching/listening material before you arrive each week
  • Attending all of the following dates and times of collective learning at the SGW campus:
  • Wednesday January 15th 4:15pm-6:15pm
  • Wednesday January 22nd 4:15pm-6:30pm
  • Wednesday January 29th 4:15pm-6:30pm
  • Wednesday February 5th 4:15pm-6:30pm
  • Wednesday February 12th 4:15pm-6:30pm
  • Wednesday February 19th 4:15pm-6:30pm
  • After each week, students will be given about 30 minutes of optional reading and reflection to complete.

Snacks will be provided for all attendees, but you are invited to bring your own food as well.

Who is this for?

If you are a current undergraduate or graduate student holding questions about your place in climate engagement and/or seeking deeper contribution, this program is designed for you. We think it will be especially suited to those looking to unpack their deeper motivations and gain focus and clarity in an affirming community. All majors and backgrounds are welcome.

(Note: This program is not designed for those who are looking primarily for climate 101, career counseling, or technical content.)

Who is this by?

Climate Wayfinding is a series designed by The All We Can Save Project and creator Dr. Katharine Wilkinson. Concordia’s Sustainability Ambassadors Program Coordinator, Meredith Marty-Dugas, received training in Climate Wayfinding this past summer and is thrilled to be bringing to our campus.

This deep learning program is being hosted on campus by the Office of Sustainability and the Multi-Faith and Spirituality Centre
