Call for papers - Theology in the City - Lonergan, Ethics and the Bible

December 16, 2016
|

The year 1916 was the official opening of Loyola College in Montreal. Two years later a young Bernard Lonergan came to Montreal to study at Loyola where he later taught Latin and Greek.

Celebrated as a “theological giant” (Globe and Mail, March 1970) and “the finest philosophic thinker of the 20th century”
(Time Magazine, March 1970), Lonergan developed a methodological framework for collaboration among various (functional) specialities of theology based on his cognitional theory. It is a framework that can be applied to all the sciences.

In celebration of Loyola’s 100th anniversary and Montreal’s 375th anniversary, the Department of Theological Studies of Concordia University is hosting a two-day conference on Lonergan, Ethics and the Bible. Key note speakers are Dr. Patrick H. Byrne (Department of Philosophy, Boston College), Dr. Kenneth R. Melchin (Christian Ethics, Professor Emeritus, St. Paul’s University), and Dr. Ian Henderson (New Testament Scholar, McGill University).

The conference will be held on May 11 and 12, 2017 at Concordia’s Sir George William’s campus in the heart of downtown Montreal.

We invite scholars and Graduate students to submit an abstract of 250 words that combines any two (or all three) of the themes of the conference "Lonergan, Ethics and the Bible".

• Scholars submit their abstract to m-f.dion@concordia.ca.
• Graduate students submit their abstract to tsgsaconcordia@gmail.com. (The Graduate student part of
the conference will be 9a.m. to 5p.m. on May 11, 2017.)

Deadline for the call for papers is January 15, 2017. The official languages for this conference are French
and English.
