Débora Corrêa de Siqueira Débora Corrêa de Siqueira

I am a doctoral candidate in Human and Social Sciences at Federal University of ABC. I am currently developing my thesis “Comparative analysis of the conditions of refuge of Syrians in Brazil, Chile, and Canada, in the perspective of policies”. I hold a master’s degree in Communication and graduated in Pedagogy at São Paulo State University (UNESP), as well as bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences at University of Campinas (UNICAMP). From April to July, I participated as a visiting scholar at York University, under the supervision of professor Don Dippo, doing academic research about Canadian policies for refugees.

Participating in the summer course "The Policy and Politics of Refugee Resettlement in Canada" at Concordia University represented an excellent opportunity for understanding policy and politics of Refugee Resettlement in Canada in an academic environment of excellence, also contributing for the enhancement of my doctorate thesis, currently under development.

Through classes, studies, and lectures from authorities, academics and professionals working in diverse areas, the course made it possible to acquire knowledge in the field of policies for refugees that was at the same time comprehensive and in-depth, being of special importance on the international scene. The course's coordinators concerned themselves not only with making the access to different visions and interpretations possible but also in offering to the students a historic perspective, with tours and visits to significant places and institutions for the comprehension of the politic and sociocultural context of Montréal, Québec, and Canada.
