Tenure-track position for Trevor Mowchun at the University of Florida
Trevor Mowchun, a prospective Humanities PhD graduate, has just completed his first year of research and teaching as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Film & Media Studies in the Department of English at the University of Florida.
Trevor works as both a film scholar and filmmaker, exploring the philosophical dimensions of film and its complex relations with the other art forms which live inside it. His dissertation Metaphysics and the Moving Image is supervised by Dr. Martin Lefebvre (main supervisor), Dr. Andre Furlani (co-supervisor), Dr. Justin E. H. Smith (co-supervisor), Dr. Nathan Brown (external, Concordia University), and Dr. George Toles (external, University of Manitoba). It proposes film’s transformative inheritance of Western metaphysics and is currently being prepared for publication with the University of Edinburgh Press.
As a filmmaker, his first feature film World to Come was completed in 2015 and can be described as a poetic investigation into the repressed unconscious of a community struggling to come together and reconnect with the world in the wake of tragedy. He is now in the midst of writing the script and developing digital techniques for a new experimental dramatic feature based on a photo-cinematic poetics of memory.
