Dear friends and colleagues:

It's the season for grad school applications!  Please do consider advising your students and others you know about the PhD in Communication program at Concordia University.  Our application deadline is February 1 2018.

Now in its 30th year of existence, Concordia's PhD in Communication program is one of the oldest and the now independently operating program in Canada. It supports a broad range of research, including work in cultural studies, feminist media studies, media history, game studies, critical race studies, social and mobile media, sound studies, creative industries, rhetoric, media policy, popular culture, visual culture, religion and media, media and the environment, media and ageing, and critical disabilities studies.  With a highly developed tradition for research-creation, our program provides advanced training in media and cultural analysis with a special emphasis on publicly and socially engaged practice.  Students in our program have produced award-winning research in the form of "traditional" scholarly theses as well as cutting-edge projects in research creation, from documentary films to interactive web-based projects, among other forms and formats.

Students can also to take advantage of the fertile research and media arts environment that makes Montreal a leading international destination for advanced study and practice in the fields of communication, media, and cultural studies.  As well, they can benefit from opportunities to teach undergraduate courses within our department, to improve their French, and other forms of support and mentoring.  Additionally, many faculty members in our department provide opportunities for research training through paid positions working on projects related to our various research initiatives, including those housed in Concordia's Mobile Media Lab, the Feminist Media Studio, the Media History Research Centre, the Montreal Signs Project, the Technology-Art-Games (TAG) Centre, and the recently formed Intersectionality Hub.
