Public Lecture: By the Rivers of the St. Lawrence
The Concordia University Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies announces a public lecture on Wednesday night, March 7 , at 6:30 PM in room R-103, 2060 McKay Street (Metro Guy-Concordia).
Professor Ira Robinson
Chair in Canadian Jewish Studies, Concordia University
will speak on the topic:
“By the Rivers of the St. Lawrence”: The Montreal Jewish Community and Its Postmemory”
The lecture examines the Montreal Jewish community at the moment of the Parti Québécois victory in the election of November 15, 1976, a moment that marked a turning point in Canadian, Quebec, and Montreal Jewish history in which the community faced major political, social, and structural changes.
Professor Robinson is Chair in Quebec and Canadian Jewish Studies in the Department of Religions and Cultures and Director of the Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies at Concordia University. He is the 2013 winner of the Louis Rosenberg Canadian Jewish Studies Distinguished Service Award from the Association for Canadian Jewish Studies.
