André Gagné, CSLP member and professor in Concordia’s department of Theological Studies, is co-editor of a new Routledge anthology titled Religion and Violence in Western Traditions (2021).
Released in September, the anthology comprises an interdisciplinary examination of the relation between religion and violence in Western traditions of the three Abrahamic faiths, and brings together scholars studying both pre-modern and contemporary manifestations of religious violence.
At its core, the book “challenges assumptions that religious violence is a modern problem that can be fully understood without reference to religious scriptures, beliefs, or history.”
The anthology comes as an exciting addition to a growing canon of works on the topics of religious violence, extremism and religion in the West produced by a number of CSLP members.
