Concordia’s Alumni Recognition Awards will take place on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, and among the recipients will be longtime CSLP collaborator Jennison Asuncion, who will receive the Benoît Pelland Alumnus of the Year Award.
Asuncion is the co-director of the Adaptech Research Network at Dawson College, working with CSLP member Catherine Fichten and others to investigate the impact of various technologies on post-secondary students with disabilities. “I have worked with Jennison since the time he was a CEGEP student, remarks Fichten, and since 1996 he and I have been co-directors of the Adaptech Research Network. I never had a doubt about his path toward fame and success.”
Concordia is naming him Alumnus of the Year for his commitment and advocacy for accessible technology, which includes co-founding Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) in 2012 and the GAAD Foundation in 2022 (see https://accessibility.day/). Through this organization he continues to promote accessibility as foundational to the design process when developing new technologies. The CSLP congratulates Jennison on this well-deserved distinction.
