Dalia Elsayed, a PhD candidate in the Department of Education, supervised by CSLP co-directors Vivek Venkatesh and David Waddington, has been named one of Concordia University’s 10 Public Scholars for 2023.
Launched in 2016, every year Concordia chooses 10 PhD students from across the university’s many disciplines to represent Concordia’s interdisciplinarity, diversity, and excellence in research. The 10 students form a cohort who, for the ensuing year, are encouraged to write op-eds, host events, conduct media interviews, engage with social media, etc., to “engage with the broader community to share the significance of their work and its impact on society.”
Dalia Elsayed, who earlier this year was also recognized by Concordia’s Black Perspectives Office with one of three research fellowships, focuses her research on race, critical theory, intersectionality and feminist epistemology. Specifically, her PhD thesis is centered on understanding how identity and oppression impact Black women’s experiences in academic spaces.
