While ChatGPT has already caused a stir in academia, as the implications for both student work and assessment, as well as academic writing, continue to be debated. In their article, ChatGPT, ally or adversary for science and math teaching? (available only in French), the authors review their testing of the tool using Secondary level problems in the disciplines of physics, chemistry and mathematics and comparing ChatGPT’s results against those of Alloprof.
In short, they found the results to be quite impressive, and while the results deserve a degree of caution, the possibilities for AI to provide intelligent tutoring services to students cannot and should not be ignored.
