“Going Dark” will feature scholars, artists, and organizers across Turtle Island, including: Assia Boundaoui, Kimberly Juanita Brown, micha cardénas, Sarah T. Hamid, Anjali Nath, Aléjandro Ruizesparza, and Sue Shon.
The event will define the lab’s usage of a theory of opacity through the triangulation of race, politics, and aesthetics: from theorizing around redaction to creative trans of color survival strategies; from historicizing visuality beginning with plantation slavery and interlocking colonialisms to envisioning abolitionist tools working against carceral technologies. “Going Dark” will include the reading of excerpts from the lab’s manifesto, as well as prompts and responses that include dialogue alongside visual work ranging from contemporary art, community co-creation, interdisciplinary scholarship, and direct action projects.
