November 19, journalist Léa Carrier interviewed both, Cécile Rousseau and Léa Clermont-Dion for a piece on the underlying reasons for the popularity of celebrity Andrew Tate with young teenage boys. Rousseau notes that so much of the discourse around men is about so-called toxic masculinity and that it is not surprising that boys would respond to someone offering easy steps to achieve a more positive conception of masculinity. That is not to say we should ignore the potential for radicalization to hate, which Clermont-Dion (a filmmaker and researcher currently working with the CSLP) addresses, noting that it requires careful interventions guided by trained professionals.
On November 20, André Gagné offered his expertise on the American evangelical movement, and the Christian Nationalism of new United States Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson. Gagné previously published his book, Ces évangéliques derrière Trump, on similar themes (the English translation is being released on December 1).
In a follow-up interview with Nathalie Collard on November 21, Clermont-Dion discussed the influence of Andrew Tate in more detail, as well as how interventions to tackle misogynistic discourse are needed as early as daycare because waiting to high school is too late.
