March 14, 2024, Bruce Maxwell (Université de Montréal) and Lauren Bialystok (University of Toronto) presented at RAPS (Recherche et Action sur les Polarisations Sociales) on the topic of Sex education, parental rights, and teacher impartiality: A comparative look at Quebec’s Culture and Citizenship curriculum and Ontario’s Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum.
Maxwell and Bialystok discussed the legal infrastructure and policies of Quebec and Ontario, as well as the public responses to changes, as well as rights-based legal challenges to mandatory sexual education.
About the presenters
Bruce Maxwell is an Associate Professor at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Education in the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations. He is also affiliated with the Centre de recherche en éthique de l’Université de Montréal and the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la formation et la profession enseignante. His areas of expertise are professional ethics in teaching, teaching and learning about philosophical issues in schools, and education law.
