On May 30, 2024, Julie Corrigan will present at the AI & Education conference being held at Concordia University beginning May 27, where she will demonstrate an AI-based writing evaluation tool that uses AI-generated feedback.
Corrigan’s nationally funded research investigates how AI can be used to support writing instruction in business contexts. More specifically, she is interested in the positive and negative, intended and unintended consequences of the use and interpretation of AI-generated feedback.
The presentation will explore the importance of feedback in writing instruction, emphasizing its role in both education and the workplace. The rise of automated writing evaluation (AWE) through AI and its widespread availability will be discussed along with the need to understand its capabilities and limitations compared to human feedback. The presentation will include insights from Dr. Corrigan’s current research project funded by SSRHC on writing for business contexts.
