CSLP to host CPES pre-conference on Philosophy of Education and the Demands of the Climate Crisis
On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the CSLP will play host to a pre-conference as part of the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) annual conference taking place in Montreal at McGill University (June 12-17). Organized by the Canadian Philosophy of Education Society (CPES), the pre-conference is organized around the theme of educational responses to the climate crisis.
Philosophy of Education and the Demands of the Climate Crisis: Timely and Timeless Conversations, will feature a series of speakers, with the keynote address (“Tracing Environmental Justice”) by CSLP member Mitchell McLarnon (Assistant Professor, Department of Education at Concordia). About CPES
The Canadian Philosophy of Education Society (CPES) is devoted to philosophical inquiry into educational issues and their relevance for developing educative, caring, and just teachers, schools, and communities. The Society welcomes inquiries about membership from professionals and graduate students who share these interests. The Society was formed in 1972 and Nirmal Bhattacharya served as the first President from 1974 until 1976. In 1981/82, the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) recognized CPES as a “significant interest group” of the Canadian Association of Foundations of Education (CAFE), which it remains today. The Society meets annually with CSSE, where it conducts its annual business meeting and members discuss their most recent research. Le mercredi 12 juin 2024, le CEAP accueillera une pré-conférence dans le cadre du congrès annuel de la Société canadienne pour l'étude de l'éducation (SCÉÉ) qui se tiendra à Montréal à l'Université McGill (12-17 juin). Organisée par la Société canadienne de philosophie de l'éducation (SCPE), la préconférence s'articule autour du thème des réponses éducatives à la crise climatique.
« Philosophy of Education and the Demands of the Climate Crisis : Timely and Timeless Conversations », présentera une série de conférencier.e.s, dont le discours principal (« Tracing Environmental Justice ») sera prononcé par Mitchell McLarnon, membre du CEAP (professeur adjoint au département d'éducation de l'Université Concordia). La Société canadienne de philosophie de l'éducation (CPES) se consacre à la recherche philosophique sur les questions éducatives et leur pertinence pour le développement d'enseignants, d'écoles et de communautés éducatifs, bienveillants et justes. La Société accueille favorablement les demandes d'adhésion de la part de professionnels et d'étudiants diplômés qui partagent ces intérêts.
