The CSLP is pleased to announce that Ilya Zrudlo has joined the Centre as its newest member. Zrudlo’s research investigates the capacities and moral sensibilities young people require to contribute to the development of their communities in urban North America, and the obstacles to their empowerment. He has investigated the moral sensibilities of young people and how these interfere with or reinforce learning. He also maintains an interest in the role of philosophy in teacher education.
Zrudlo notes that he has “researched the moral sensibilities reinforcing teachers’ mistaken belief in the learning styles myth, and how these can be redirected to help educator teachers.” Next year, he has already agreed to join the to join the CSLP Speaker Series to discuss his critique of learning styles (see our new Events calendar).
In relation to interdisciplinary perspectives on learning, Zrudlo says he has “addressed questions related to the purpose of education and the related societal implications in several publications, including articles in Educational Theory and Studies in Philosophy and Education. I have been especially interested in the theme of modernity in this connection: how Western modernity both helps and hampers the learning of students and shapes our conception of the overall direction of education.”
