Gender to be explored across multiple events at the CSLP in February

How gender intersects with other elements of identity, and the unique challenges it presents, as well as how it manifests and plays out in educational contexts, are important issues that many researchers and academics have focused on in recent years. This month at the CSLP gender takes centre stage as we have three events where ideas and notion around gender will be shared, honoured, and discussed.

First up, on February 14, the CSLP is partnering with the Concordia University Indigenous Healing Knowledges chair to present a special interactive arts-based workshop, Healing from Historical Gender-based Violence, that will invite participants into “gentle embodied healing practices and group circle sharing.” The event will be facilitated by Natasha Williot and moe clark.

Next, on February 19, the Centre d'études sur l'apprentissage et la performance (CEAP UQAM), our centre’s satellite office at UQAM, in partnership with CSLP Concordia, will host an online presentation by Laurie-Rose Caron-Jacques, doctoral student and lecturer in the Département d'éducation spécialisée et de formation at UQAM. The presentation (in French), entitled Gender identity at school: understanding, supporting and acting, will “demystify the notions of sex, gender identity and sexual orientation, and then explore the reality of young people's experience of gender diversity in the school environment.”

Finally, the third and final session of the Theorised Identities roundtable talks will be held on February 21. The roundtable of Keenan Daniel Manning (PhD student, Department of Educational Studies, University of British Columbia), Ian Klaus-Springer (PhD candidate, Educational Studies, Concordia University), and Samira Karim (PhD student, Educational Technology, Concordia University) will reconvene to discuss Gender in the Field of Education. The discussion will be mediated by Neslihan Sriram-Uzundal (PhD student, Educational Studies, Concordia University).

Les questions relatives à l'identité de genre seront abordées lors de plusieurs événements au CEAP en Février

L'intersection du genre avec d'autres éléments de l'identité, les défis uniques qu'il pose, ainsi que la manière dont il se manifeste et joue dans les contextes éducatifs, sont des questions importantes sur lesquelles de nombreux chercheur.euse.s et universitaires se sont penchés ces dernières années. Ce mois-ci, au CEAP, le genre occupe le devant de la scène avec trois événements au cours desquels des idées et des notions sur le genre seront partagées, honorées et discutées.

Tout d'abord, le 14 février, le CEAP s'associe à la chaire Indigenous Healing Knowledges de l'Université Concordia pour présenter un atelier interactif spécial basé sur les arts, intitulé Healing from Historical Gender-based Violence, qui invitera les participants à des « pratiques de guérison incarnées et douces et à un partage en cercle ». L'événement sera animé par Natasha Williot et moe clark.

Ensuite, le 19 février, le Centre d'études sur l'apprentissage et la performance (CEAP UQAM), le bureau satellite de notre centre à l'UQAM, en partenariat avec le CSLP Concordia, accueillera une présentation en ligne de Laurie-Rose Caron-Jacques, doctorante et chargée de cours au Département d'éducation spécialisée et de formation de l'UQAM. Cette présentation, intitulée L'identité de genre à l'école : comprendre, soutenir et agir, permettra de « démystifier les notions de sexe, d'identité de genre et d'orientation sexuelle, puis d'explorer la réalité de l'expérience des jeunes en matière de diversité de genre dans le milieu scolaire ».

Enfin, la troisième et dernière session des tables rondes Theorised Identities se tiendra le 21 février. La table ronde composée de Keenan Daniel Manning (doctorant, département d'études pédagogiques, Université de Colombie-Britannique), Ian Klaus-Springer (candidat au doctorat, études pédagogiques, Université Concordia) et Samira Karim (doctorante, technologie pédagogique, Université Concordia) se réunira à nouveau pour discuter de la question du genre dans le domaine de l'éducation. La discussion sera animée par Neslihan Sriram-Uzundal (doctorante, études pédagogiques, Université Concordia).
