We are very pleased to announce that renowned local historian Dr. Dorothy Williams will return to LCDS this fall to teach LOYC 298-02: Black Montreal for the second year in a row. This course recognizes that much of the city’s early Black history is unknown and that even today, the current knowledge of the Black experience in Montreal continues to be fraught with myth and misconception. The course is largely designed to introduce students to the major themes, issues, and debates in Montreal’s Black history from its origins until today. Students who took the class last year described it as life-changing and inspirational. As far as we know, this is the only course of this kind offered at a Montreal University.
