On Friday Jan. 27, 2017, our colleagueProfessor Judith Patterson passed away peacefully at home with her beloved dog by her side, surrounded by friends. The obituary appeared on Monday, January 30 in the Montreal Gazette, the Globe and Mail, and the Kingston Whig-Standard.
Judith was a beloved teacher, a respected researcher, and a devoted friend to many. She was one of the first fellows of the Loyola Sustainability Research Centre and keenly interested in its development. Most of her recent research focussed on the atmospheric impact of fossil fuels; her research dissemination took many forms, including interviews, as well as numerous academic papers and book chapters.
Judith was also a member of the Science College for many years and taught in the Environmental Geoscience B.Sc. programme at Concordia. She was an excellent teacher, dedicated to optimizing her students’ learning. Her strong ethical core and sense of fairness were well appreciated.
An intensely private person, Judy always felt deeply connected to the natural environment and to its many varieties of life. Her special love was dogs, and she had a deep understanding of, and connection to her companion animals. Some of her most joyful times were at her cottage in Ontario.
She will be much missed by her friends and colleagues and remembered with great affection.
