Presentations and speeches

On May 28th Lieutenant-General Dallaire resigned from the Canadian Senate to dedicate more time to humanitarian issues. MIGS published a press release on his resignation. The BBC mentioned General Dallaire’s work with MIGS in its story.

With support from the Nexus Fund, MIGS hosted Andrei Serbin Pont from the Latin American think tank CRIES as part of  a two-week international civil society exchange which will also see Kyle Matthews visit Brazil and Argentina this coming November.

Events

On May 30th, Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire presented a lecture at the Université de Montréal on the use of child soldiers in the Central African Republic

On May 29th, MIGS, in collaboration with Concordia’s Department of Political Science & the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability, hosted a seminar on the ongoing crisis in Nigeria. Dr. Frank Chalk spoke about “Boko Haram and the crisis in Nigeria: Islamic radicalism and state weakness.

On May 27th MIGS hosted a workshop on "Latin America's approach to the Responsibility to Protect"featuring Andrei Serbin Pont from South American think tank CRIES.

On May 23rd Kyle Matthews published an article for the Canadian International Council exploring the persecution of religious minorities in Iran. Check out “More than Nuclear: The plight of Baha’is in Iran”

On May 12th Lt. General Romeo Dallaire wrote an op-ed for the Globe & Mail. Read ‘Nigeria’s children won’t be saved with hashtags alone.’

On May 28th Frank Chalk sat down with CJAD to discuss Boko Haram and the logistics of rescuing the kidnapped Nigerian girls.

On May 27thKyle Matthews spoke to Camille Ross from Global News about the situation in the Ukraine and what it means for the international community.

On May 12th Kyle Matthews gave an interview with CBC news to discuss how the latest video released by Boko Haram signals some hope for the abducted girls.

On May 9th Kyle Matthews was featured on AM Montreal, Global TV News, to weigh in on Boko Haram and the Nigerian abductions.

On May 8th Kyle Matthew gave a video interview to La Presse titled « Les Génocides Au-Delà Du Rwanda » discussing the persistence of genocide and mass atrocity crimes twenty years after the Rwandan Genocide.
