 On 12 February, Senior Deputy Director Kyle Matthews published an op-ed titled “The Central African Republic is Africa’s newest Rwanda” on GlobalNews.ca

On 12 February Kyle Matthews was quoted in the Toronto Star article “CAR killings amount to “ethnic cleansing,” says Amnesty”.

On 18 February, MIGS launched the Humanitarian Twitterati, the world’s first comprehensive list of the most active humanitarians on Twitter. In parallel to the launch, MIGS organized a Google+ Hang Out with Andrew Stroehlein (Human Rights Watch), Jonathan Hutson, and Geoffrey York (Africa Correspondent for the Globe and Mail). You can watch the Hang Out on the website and read the responses from the members of our Twitterati. 

On 19 February, assistant to the Director Marie Lamensch published an article in the Huffington Post Quebec titled “Un génocidaire rwandais sur le banc des accusés: la France face à ses responsabilités?

On 25 February, Prof. Frank Chalk and Kyle Matthews attended a talk given by Mr. Adama Dieng, the United Nations’ Under-Secretary-General & Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, at the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Prevention of Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity (GPG) in Ottawa. The GPG is chaired by the MIGS’ Distinguished Senior Fellow, Lt.-Gen. (Retd) Roméo Dallaire.

On 26 February, Kyle Matthews participated in “Conflict in South Sudan: Issues, Actors and Options for Canada,” held at the Centre for International Policy Studies at Ottawa University.

On 3-5 March, Kyle Matthews attended the RightsCon in San Francisco. RightsCon brings together human rights experts, corporate leaders, activists, engineers and investors to developed strategies, new technologies and partnerships.

On 6 March, Kyle Matthews participated in a panel discussion on “Sovereignty and International Intervention: Responsibility-to-Protect and Humanitarian Intervention in the 21st Century” at Harvard University. The panel was part of the Harvard International Law Journal’s 2014 Symposium “The Future of Sovereignty”.

On March 10, MIGS’ assistant Marie Lamensch was quoted in an article titled “What we can learn from child soldiers” on ipsnews.net and Radio Netherland Worldwide

On 12 March, Kyle Matthews gave a presentation at the Canadian Border Security Agency’s War Crimes Intelligence Workshop.

15 March 2014 marks the third anniversary of the Syria crisis. To mark this sad day, MIGS has joined the global #WithSyria campaign. Visit With-Syria.org to find out more about the initiative.

On 14 March, University of Ottawa historian Professor Jan Grabowski presented a MIGS Workshop on his recently published book Hunt for the Jews. Betrayal and Murder in German-Occupied Poland.

On 15 March, Marie Lamensch, assistant at MIGS, gave a presentation at McGill University organized by McGill STAND on “A Conflict of Interests: Canadian Mining in the Congo Conference”
