Upcoming Events

MIGS is organizing its 3rd annual Professional Training Program in Mass Atrocity Prevention in collaboration with the University of Ottawa’s Human Rights Research and Education Centre. The training opportunity will take place in Ottawa, Canada on June 15-17, 2015. An announcement on how to register will be made by the end of March.

MIGS launched a crowdfunding campaign to send staff to Deutsche Welle’s Global Media Forum this June in Germany. Kyle Matthews and Marie Lamensch have been asked to give a presentation on "Social media vs. Digital Jihad." More information on the campaign can be found here. We kindly ask you to share this initiative with your colleagues and associations.

27 January: MIGS was honored to host Holocaust survivor Hermann Gruenwald to commemorate the 70thanniversary of Auschwitz Liberation. The event was covered by Global News and photos can be found on our Facebook page.

18 February: In cooperation with the Max Stern Art Restitution Project and the City Museum of Düsseldorf, MIGS organized a workshop on the role of museums in educating children on human rights. More information on the event can be found here.
 
25 February: Lt-Gen. The Honourable Romeo Dallaire participated in the Forward Thinking Speakers Series at the Edmonton Public Library. His presentation was entitled “Freedom to Lead”. More information about the event can be found here.
 
10 March: Marie Lamensch participated in the Avocats Sans Frontières/Lawyers Without Borders event “International Law and Social Justice Speed Meet” at McGill University.
 
On 10 March, MIGS co-sponsored the Concordia Library conference which Director Frank Chalk helped to organize,"Memory and Commemoration: The Azrieli Holocaust Collection at Thirty", featuring a keynote address by Deborah Dwork and presentations by four rising and established Holocaust scholars.
11 March: MIGS organized a screening followed by panel discussion of Maziar Bahari’s film “To Light a Candle” in cooperation with the Concordia Association for Baha’i studies. The film deals with the persecution of the Baha’i in Iran.

3 February: Kyle Matthews was interviewed for a piece by Global News Montreal titled “Concordia University researcher crowdfunds to fight fundamentalism”.
 
4 February: Kyle Matthews was interviewed on Daybreak Montreal, please see “ISIS propaganda to be tracked by Montreal-based project if enough funds are raised”.

9 February: Kyle Matthews authored an op-ed in the National Post titled “Fighting the cyber jihadists”.
 
9 February: Kyle Matthews was named Concordia University’s Newsmaker of the Week for media coverage of MIGS’ efforts to counter extremism on social media. See the announcement here.
 
10 February: Marie Lamensch had an article published in The Huffington Post titled “Bienvenue dans l'ère du djihadisme numérique”.

24 February: Kyle Matthews wrote an article for the Canadian International Council titled “Five ways to fight ISIS online”.
 
4 March: Frank Chalk was quoted in the National Post in an article titled “With little fanfare, infamous right-wing groups makes its way into Quebec”.  The article by Monique Muise also appeared in the Montreal Gazette.
