- On June 3, MIGS hosted the #RightsCity conference at Concordia University. This year’s event included esteemed speakers such as Adama Dieng (Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide) and General-Lt. Romeo Dallaire (MIGS Senior Fellow). Discussions centered on the fight against mass atrocities, human rights violations in China, the silencing of journalists, political prisoners, threats to human rights in Cameroon, and Canada’s historic role in defending these issues. The event was livestreamed by CPAC and the link to watch it will be available soon. Pictures are available on MIGS’ Facebook page. Finally, a series of podcasts featuring ten of our speakers will be released shortly.
- Following the Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence Forum, MIGS released a podcast on how the emergence of new AI technology will impact human rights.

June 13
- In commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide, and the morning period known as Kwibuka, Frank Chalk will be speaking at a conference titled, “Justice and Memory” in Ottawa. The event will take place on June 13 at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel (Adam Room), from 2-6 pm.
- Digital Fellow André Gagné will give a presentation titled, "Social Identity, Religious Rhetoric and Social Media in the Process of Radicalization” at the Toronto Police College.
June 20-28
- MIGS is sponsoring, “An Image for Justice,” a global cartoon contest on the theme of Genocide, Truth, and Reconciliation. The launch will take place at Cafe Aunja and you can register for free here. Original Cartoons from Canada, Syria, Brazil, China, Serbia, Austria and Iran will be showcased. If you can’t make it to the launch, the cartoons will be on exhibition in the MIGS boardroom from June 25 to 28.

● MIGS Fellow Fannie Lafontaine participated in a conference at the Montreal launch of Louise Arbour’s book “Doing Peace the Rights Way.”

● MIGS Digital Fellow Phil Gurski delivered a talk titled, “An End to the War on Terrorism” at the Ottawa Shenkman Arts Centre.

Advocacy
May 2
● MIGS Executive Director Kyle Matthews participated in a press conference at Parliament Hill alongside Senator Marilou McPhedran, Senator Salma Ataullahjan, Fareed Khan of the Rohingya Human Rights Network, and Rachel Vincent of the Nobel Women’s Initiative. They discussed a motion calling for Canada to invoke the UN genocide convention against Myanmar for its persecution of Rohingya Muslims. Watch the clip here.
May 7
● Marie Lamensch and MIGS Fellow Dr. Fannie Lafontaine joined a group of 101 experts, including 15 members of the Canadian Partnership for International Justice, in signing an open letter to the Senate supporting Bill C-262. The bill aims to ensure that Canadian laws align with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
May 23
● In light of the alarming military escalation in northwestern Syria, MIGS issued a press statement in partnership with Crisis Action and 42 other NGOs. The press statement called for an immediate end to attacks against civilians and Hospitals in Idlib province.
June 6
● MIGS Executive Director Kyle Matthews participated in the conference titled, “Confronting Atrocities in China: The Global Response to the Uyghur Crisis” in Washington D.C.
