Along with 45 civil-society organizations, MIGS signed a joint letter calling on the governments convening the Summit for Democracy 2023 to prioritize human rights due diligence for spyware technologies on the Summit’s agenda.

Kyle Matthews and Digital Fellow Phil Gurski participated in the Canadian launch of the 2023 Global Terrorism Index, which was hosted by the University of Ottawa’s Professional Development Institute National Security programme. Kyle, Phil, and Serge Stroobants (Global Director for Security, Defence and Intelligence at the Institute for Economics and Peace) also gave a press conference on Parliament Hill.

MIGS Fellow Naomi Kikoler spoke at a hearing of the Select Committee on the CCP titled “The Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing Uyghur genocide”. Other speakers included Nury Turkel (Chair, U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom) and Dr. Adrian Zenz (Senior Fellow and Director in China Studies, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation).
MIGS Fellow Eric Meerkamper attended the DemocracyXChange Summit in Toronto, an event that brings together changemakers to discuss the most pressing problems of our generation.

MIGS hosted the third round table of its Digital Peace Project, in partnership with Concordia University's Indigenous Directions Office. Titled “Countering Online Hate Towards Indigenous Peoples”, the discussion featured Catherine Martin (Director of Indigenous Community Engagement, Dalhousie University), Dr. Suzanne Kite (visual artist and research assistant at the Initiative for Indigenous Futures), Bailey Oster (Youth Programs and Services Director, Métis Nation of Alberta), Megan Tipler (Indigenous Strategies Manager, Office of the Vice Provost Indigenous Programming and Research, University of Alberta) and was moderated by Kristy Snell (Academic Director/Journalistic Leader In-Residence, Institute for Inclusive, Investigative, and Innovative Journalism, Concordia University).
