The Philosophy Department is pleased to announce that Soline Van de Moortele, BA Honours in Philosophy and Minor in History student, is the winner of the 2022 Sheila Mason Bursary.

The Sheila Mason Bursary is administered by the Students of Philosophy Association's Inclusivity Project. The bursary honours the work of Dr. Sheila Mason and her extensive contributions to the Department of Philosophy as Professor and Academic Advisor from 1969 to 2015. For over 40 years, Dr. Mason amplified the voices of women and minorities through her work on feminist theory, care, and ethics.

The Sheila Mason Bursary is designed to provide financial aid to students, specifically women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and individuals with disabilities. Those chosen for the bursary will have sought to promote diversity through both academic and community initiatives within the Philosophy program. The bursary is awarded based upon initiatives made by the individual to promote inclusive thought and action within Concordia’s Philosophy Department or to prioritize the exploration of queer, postcolonial, intersectional, feminist or race theory inside and outside of class settings.

Soline Van de Moortele's winning essay is titled "Feminizing Foucault’s Genealogy: Reading the Tragic Constitution of the Feminine in Euripides’ Ion."

Congratulations, Soline!
