The Department of Philosophy is pleased to welcome Mérédith Laferté-Coutu as a SSHRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow, working under the supervision of Dr. Matthias Fritsch from August 2022-2024. The research project she is working on is entitled “Levinas on Land: An Expanded Account of Responsibility.”
Mérédith Laferté-Coutu received her Ph.D. in philosophy from Penn State University in 2022. Her areas of research include phenomenology, ethics, French continental philosophy, and environmental philosophy. Her dissertation, The Missed Encounter between Husserl and Levinas: On the Possibility of Ethics, stages a debate between the two thinkers on their respective notions of situated and infinite responsibility. She is the author of articles on Husserlian ethics, Levinas’s metaphysics, and critical phenomenology.
