Prof. David Morris Elected to the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy Executive

Prof. David Morris has been elected to the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP) Executive Committee as a member-at-large for a 3-year term (2022-25).

David Morris is Professor of Philosophy at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. He specializes in phenomenology, especially Merleau-Ponty, with research that focusses on body, mind and nature in relation to current biology and other sciences. His other interests include Hegel, Bergson and Aristotle. He is currently working to complete a manuscript, Time, Meaning, Nature, as a sequel to Merleau-Ponty’s Developmental Ontology (Northwestern University Press, 2018), which won the 2020 Edward Goodwin Ballard Prize for best book in phenomenology. He is also author of The Sense of Space (SUNY, 2004) and is co-editor, with Kym Maclaren, of Time, Memory, Institution: Merleau-Ponty’s New Ontology of Self (Ohio UP, 2015). He is currently Associate General Secretary of the International Merleau-Ponty Circle, where he initiated an online film series, Phenomenology of Perception Around the World, during the COVID crisis. He is a member-at-large of the Canadian Society for Continental Philosophy, on the editorial board of Concordia University Press, is Graduate Program Director of the interdisciplinary Humanities PhD program at Concordia, and was Department of Philosophy Chair at Concordia for 6 years, for which he earned a Concordia Emerging Academic Leadership Award.
