Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) has recently awarded Mireille Paquet, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University, a $1.2 million funding to establish the Réseau de recherche sur l’immigration, l’intégration et les relations interculturelles au Québec (RQ3I). The project, led in collaboration with fellow researchers Bob White from Université de Montréal and Stéphanie Arsenault from Université Laval, will be Quebec's first dedicated research network focused on immigration, integration, and intercultural relations. Together, they aim to create a platform that fosters collaboration among experts, bridging the gap between academic research and public policy.

“The creation of the RQ3I is a significant step towards a better understanding of intercultural dynamics in Quebec,” explains Paquet.

This funding comes at a crucial time, as Quebec continues to navigate complex issues surrounding immigration. The RQ3I network will enhance academic research and serve as a vital resource for policymakers and stakeholders developing inclusive practices and effective public policies.

“Thanks to this support, we have the opportunity to build a strong network that will bring together experts from various fields to explore the challenges and opportunities related to immigration and integration.”

As highlighted by Rémi Quirion, Chief Scientist of Quebec, RQ3I is an important step toward understanding the complexities of immigration and integration in the province. The network will facilitate dialogue among researchers and provide essential insights to inform policy at the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation, and Integration (MIFI).

This initiative aligns with IRMS' commitment to advancing interdisciplinary migration research. "The Institute for Research on Migration and Society aligns with Theme 2 of Concordia’s strategic research plan by advancing inclusive evidence-based policies and practices that promote social justice for migrants and immigrants," explains Aaron Johnson, Associate Vice-President Research: Strategic institutional initiatives and innovation. "Its researchers are gaining increasing recognition for their expertise in migration and immigration, particularly within the distinctive socio-political landscape of Québec and Canada."
