Social Justice Fellow Gideon Abagna Azunre wins a prize

The Social Justice Centre is proud to announce that one of our fellows, Gideon Abagna Azunre, has won a prize from the FRQSC.

Gideon Abagna Azunre received the Prix Relève étoile Paul-Gérin-Lajoie from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) for his paper "Urban informalities in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA): A solution for or barrier against sustainable city development" published in the peer-reviewed journal World Development. 

Azunre’s research paper evaluated the role of urban informalities in sustainable city development in sub-Saharan Africa. Urban informalities refer to everyday economic, social or spatial activities not recognized by formal regulations. 

He is currently pursuing his PhD in geography, urban and environmental studies at Concordia and he will present his doctoral research at the Social Justice Graduate Fellows Lunchtime Seminars. 

His talk "The politics of multi-stakeholder participation and inclusion in informal contexts: Lessons from a Participatory Slum Upgrading Program (PSUP) in Ghana" will be held at SHIFT on Thursday March 9 from 12-2 pm. All are welcome.
