Lata Narayanan, Benjamin Fung, Anjali Agarwal and students Hamidreza Yazdani Sarvestani, Gaby Dagher, Émilie Chartrand, Hind Alwan and Shohel Reza Amin are among this summer's Faculty Accolades!
PhD student Hamidreza Yazdani Sarvestani in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering was selected from among a huge number of international applicants to receive a scholarship in order to attend the 2013 International Graduate Summer School in Aeronautics and Astronautics, which was held in Beihang University (BUAA) from July 9 to 16, 2013.
Lata Narayanan from Computer Science and Software Engineering has received the Concordia Academic Leadership Award. From 2009 to 2012, Lata Narayanan was associate dean, Academic Programs, for the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. She also served as associate chair and undergraduate program director before then. She is currently a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
Benjamin Fung, who until recently was at the Concordia Institute for Information Systems Engineering, in collaboration with Gaby Dagher, a PhD candidate, have created a new technique to help law enforcement experts catch cybercriminals. Their research was featured on CTV News, and in The Toronto Telegraph, The Times of India, Le Journal de Montréal, TVA, Radio-Canada the Huffington Post and numerous other media markets.
Émilie Chartrand, a student in Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering, was awarded the prize, Excelle science, from the Ministère de l'enseignement supérieur, de la recherche, de la science et de la technologie valued at $2,000. The award was given at the 70th gala national du concours Chapeau, les filles!
Anjali Agarwal and her PhD student Hind Alwan in Electrical and Computer Engineering have been awarded the best paper award at the International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications (AICCSA) 2013. The paper is titled "A Cross-Layer-based routing with QoS-Aware scheduling for wireless sensor network". This is for the track "Networking, Sensor Networking, Mobile Computing."
The Association des Ingénieurs Municipaux du Québec (AIGT) visited Concordia this summer to present a scholarship to civil engineering PhD student, Shohel Reza Amin, in Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering. The scholarship is for $2,500. Michel Bordeleau from AIQT was at Concordia to meet the award-winning student in person.
