A quarter of the artists named to the long list of the 2012 Sobey Art Awards are Concordia alumni or students.

The Concordia nominees include alumni Nicholas Pye (05) and Sheila Pye (05), Mark Igloliorte (10), Nadia Myre (02), all recipients of an MFA in Studio Arts, and BFA graduate Ève K. Tremblay (01). Two current MFA in Studio Arts candidates also have their fingers crossed: Paul Butler and Julie Favreau, who on May 3 was named the Concordia winner of the 2012 Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art.

Last year, Concordia Faculty member Manon de Pauw, a part-time photography instructor, progressed to the award's short list, as did alumnus Charles Stankievech (MFA 07).

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Sobey Art Award is given annually to a Canadian artist age 40 or under. It's worth $50,000 to the winner and $5,000 to each of the four other finalists.

The short list will be announced in late June, followed by an autumn exhibition featuring their work at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto. The winner of the 10th Anniversary Sobey Art Award will be announced on November 16, 2012.
