Studio Arts grad nabs top award at BMO national contest
Mika Goodfriend's diptych Benoit et Suzanne, Reynald et Marylda, part of his series about Quebec retirees in Florida, has been deemed the best of the best of the 2012 BMO 1st Art! Invitational Student Art Competition.
As the national winner - the first time this honour has gone to a Concordian -, Goodfriend claimed a prize of $10,000 while each of the 12 regional winners received $5,000.
The only national graduating artist competition in the country, BMO 1st Art! honours excellence in visual arts in post-secondary institutions. Deans and instructors of undergraduate arts programs are invited to select three outstanding students. Goodfriend graduated in 2012 with Great Distinction with a BFA in Studio Arts, major in Photography.
The winning entries will be on display at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) in Toronto from Oct. 3 to 28, 2012.
