Art Historians Successfully Host UAAC Conference & Knowledge and Networks: Canada Art History, Circa 2012
Well over 300 art historians and artists spent three days (November 1-3, 2012) in the EV building at Concordia University, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Dr. Anne Whitelaw, Associate Professor in our Department. As Vice-President of the Universities Art Association of Canada and 2012 Conference Chair, she organized - with the aid of other faculty, staff and student volunteers - a dynamic encounter which featured 52 sessions and some 160 presentations.
On behalf of everyone at Concordia, I should like to salute Dr. Whitelaw and her team: records were broken, but most importantly, rich papers and discussion sessions were in abundance.
Prefacing the UAAC conference was an all-day study session involving some 25 established and emerging Canadian art historians. Co-organized by the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Institute's Research Chair and Director Dr. Martha Langford and Deputy-Director Dr. Johanne Sloan, this exciting initiative dealt with the current state of research on the visual arts in Canada and its mobilization.
Bravo to all,
Dr. Catherine MacKenzie
Acting Chair, Department of Art History
