Theatre prof's set designs on display in Sherwood
The work of Ana Cappelluto, theatre professor and Fine Arts associate dean (planning and academic facilities) is on display in Sherwood Forest. Geordie Productions' stage version of Sherwood, that is.
Cappelluto designed the set for Geordie's production of Robin Hood, currently playing (until Dec. 16) at the at the Centaur Theatre in Montreal. Described as a new-ish take on the old tale, Robin Hood tells a classic story that speaks to our time: an outlaw who breaks the law to be true to a higher authority - a former rich man who robs from the rich to give to the poor.
Cappelluto thinks that the production is particularly relevant in 2012, given the current Occupy movement, started in 2011 in New York.
Local critics agreed: according to a Rover review, "in the current climate where talk of fiscal cliffs and taxing the 1% feels dire and radical, this is a perfect time for the legend of Robin Hood to make its comeback."
