Rebelle, a film about a child stolen from her village to become a soldier in an unnamed African conflict, received nine nominations, including nods for best film, screenplay and direction (both Nguyen, BFA 97), actress (Congolese teen Rachel Mwanza) and supporting actor (Serge Kanyinda). The film is also nominated at the Academy Awards in the category of foreign-language film.
