Film Studies alum wins FSAC Graduate Student Writing Award
Narcocinema, Diasporic Video Stores, and the Politics of Genre,
Recent Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema film studies graduate Juan Llamas-Rodriguez, MA 13, is winner of the 2013 Film Studies Association of Canada (FSAC) Graduate Student Writing Award. The award was announced in early June at the annual FSAC conference.
Llamas-Rodriguez's essay, titled Narcocinema, Diasporic Video Stores, and the Politics of Genre, was written as part of an independent study with associate professor Haidee Wasson over the course of last summer.
Llamas-Rodriguez has been accepted into the PhD program in the Film and Media Studies Department at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He will begin his studies this fall.
