The Department of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a limited term position as Lecturer and Director/Curator of the Blackwood Gallery for the period November 15, 2013 ending December 31, 2014. This position is at 75% Full Time Equivalent (75% FTE).

Candidates must have an advanced degree in an area such as Art History, Cultural Studies, Museum/Curatorial Studies or other related disciplines. A Ph.D. is desirable. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching, experience with art and culture collections and exhibits, and curatorial expertise.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in curatorial practice and possibly, based on expertise, in other areas of art and culture. Working with the Dean, the Chair and others, the successful candidate will direct the conception and organization of exhibitions and oversee the implementation of all other aspects of the Gallery's program including outreach, publication, student exhibitions, events, and the maintenance of the permanent collection.

Developing the role of the gallery as a site for exposition, teaching, and learning, the selected candidate will help to integrate its work into the fabric of disciplinary and pedagogical life within the University of Toronto Mississauga through collaboration with individual faculty members and academic departments. In addition, the incumbent will oversee the current collection of Canadian and international modern and contemporary art, as well as the gallery's other exhibit sites.

The Department of Visual Studies (DVS) is an interdisciplinary department that stresses the importance of history, theory, and studio practice in the study of the visual. The Blackwood Gallery is a working museum and gallery linked with the DVS which provides a forum for the contextualization and interpretation of contemporary and historical art and culture. Exam Invigilator

Department: Access Centre for Students with Disabilities (ACSD)

Effective Date: Fall 2013 semester

Purpose of Position

The role of Exam Invigilator has, as its primary purpose, to ensure the integrity of the examination processes of Concordia University as laid out in the Academic Code of Conduct of the University.

Reporting Structure

The Exam Invigilator reports to the Exam Coordinator and ultimately to the Manager of the ACSD.
Accountability: The Exam Invigilator will ensure that all exam-related paperwork and processes are completed during and at the end of each shift.

Position Scope

The Exam Invigilator is the primary contact for ACSD registered students in the exam room. They are required to adhere to the instructions of each individual exam and ensure that students understand and comply with the instructions as presented by the professor. Any questions or requests beyond the scope of the instructions presented are to be referred to the ACSD Exam Coordinator or to the ACSD Manager.

Judgement and Autonomy

The Exam Invigilator will have limited autonomy and exercise judgement within a restricted scope of activity. Any aspect of the exam invigilation process that falls outside the limited scope must be brought to the ACSD Exam Coordinator or the ACSD Manager.

Working Conditions

Exam Invigilators will often work in teams in various classrooms across both the Loyola and Sir George Williams campuses. They will occasionally be required to make deliveries to departments or go to classrooms to retrieve exams or seek out information during an invigilation shift.

Skills

Fluent English (spoken and written) is required and basic to moderate French (spoken) is an asset. An ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations and to the ability to multitask is required. Strong computer skills are also an asset.
