Tristan Khaner appointed Director, Office of the Dean and Faculty Operations, Faculty of Fine Arts
Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts welcomes Tristan Khaner as the new Director, Office of the Dean and Faculty Operations. He will start his new role on March 30, 2020.
Khaner comes from the Institute for Co-operative Education, where he has been Associate Director for the last three years, playing a key management role during a time when the institute had broadened its mandate, nearly doubled student enrollment and increased its staff.
“When the first few people heard that Tristan was coming to work for Fine Arts, their eyes lit up. His reputation precedes him,” says Rebecca Duclos, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
“Tristan has played a part in some significant projects at Concordia and helped Dr. Claude Martel deepen and expand the work of the Institute for Co-operative Education. He is known for his calm, collegial work in change management. We are so happy to have him here as the perfect person to usher in the arrival of Annie Gérin as our new dean and to carry on the steady hand of our beloved, outgoing Director of Administration, Helen Athanassiadis.”
Khaner brings a blend of experience in organizational development, strategic analysis and leadership coaching within multiple departments at Concordia. As a result, he has developed a rich support network across the university which will serve him well in his new role.
Before Concordia, Khaner held leadership roles at private and non-profit organizations, coached leaders from all sectors and worked at the University of Alberta as a manager and course instructor. He holds a masters degree from Concordia in Human Systems Intervention, and recent certification in both professional coaching and project user experience design.
Khaner takes over from Helen Athanassiadis, who had served in this position since 2011.
Reporting to the Dean, the Director provides on-going Faculty-wide leadership, counsel and guidance on operational and administrative issues to staff and management. He serves as a leader and as primary contact for all administrative and personnel issues and procedures for academic units reporting directly to the Dean’s Office.
