Concordia Department of Theatre and faculty Raymond Marius Boucher are honoured with URTA Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Training
Concordia’s Department of Theatre has been recognized with two University Resident Theatre Association (URTA) Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Training. The department itself has received the Institution Award for Design and Technology, while senior lecturer Raymond Marius Boucher, BFA 88, has received the URTA Award for Scenic Design and Technology for his outstanding training and mentorship in that area. For Boucher, this recognition is also worth sharing with his predecessors and colleagues who have led the way such as Eric Mongerson and Ana Cappelluto. The URTA Awards acknowledge the work of instructors and institutions like Concordia in equipping undergraduate students with essential skills for advanced theatre training and their eventual entry into the profession.
As part of this recognition, the department may select one of its students for a Candidate Award, which provides free registration for the URTA Auditions & Interviews, or “the URTAs”. The URTAs consist of classes, informational sessions, workshops and panel discussions on a variety of theatre topics. It is also an opportunity for candidates to connect with recruiters from dozens of graduate-level theatre programs.
Shauna Janssen, department chair, expressed her excitement about the recognition. "My colleagues and I, along with the entire department of Theatre, are honoured to receive this recognition. This acknowledgement underscores our ongoing commitment to nurturing new talent and maintaining excellence in theatre education. I’m equally thrilled for Raymond Marius Boucher, who truly deserves this honor.”
The awardees will be honoured with a reception on January 25, 2025, at the URTAs in Chicago.
